4/11/12 TIGERS VERLANDER SHOCKED BY 9th INN LOSS 2 RAYS: By Jason Beck / MLB.com | 4/11/2012 6:39 PM ET DETROIT -- The Tigers weren't going to win them all. But nobody imagined them losing their first like this. When Justin Verlander was mowing down hitters through the first four-plus innings, he looked like he had a chance at history. When he went into the ninth inning with a one-hit shutout and 81 pitches, he looked like a shoo-in to go the distance. Nearly an hour later, after former teammate Fernando Rodney had finished off the final out of a 4-2 Rays comeback win, the Tigers looked like someone who had taken a punch to the gut. It was the first loss of the year for Detroit, the American League's..." mlb.mlb.com

Detroit Tigers Vs Texas Rangers! Who Will Win ALCS in 2011 MLB Playoffs? #ThisWeekinRed
Detroit Tigers Vs Texas Rangers! Who Will Win ALCS in 2011 MLB Playoffs? #ThisWeekinRed
It will be Detroit Tigers vs Texas Rangers for the 2011 American League pennant after the Tigers upset the New York Yankees in five games and the Rangers took care of the Tampa Bay Rays in four in the ALDS. This figures to be an almost even series but it will probably come down to the two mega stars on each team- Justin Verlander of the Tigers and Josh Hamilton of the Rangers. Whichever one shines brighter will allow his team to advance to the 2011 World Series. Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees - Free MLB Pick of the Day
Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees - Free MLB Pick of the Day
The Detroit Tigers enter the American League Divisional Series playoffs against the odds favorite NY Yankees. With Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia taking the mound tonight, I feel that the 'under' is the best play for bettors. After meeting on opening day of the just concluded regular season, CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander lock horns again as the Yanks and Tigers begin their best-of-five American League Division series at Yankee Stadium. Game time is 8-37 PM ET with a 50 percent chance of rain in the forecast and temperatures in the 50's. MLB odds boards opened Sabathia as the -128 favorite with the total at 7. It appears that early baseball betting action has had little effect on the line as it remains stable for the most part. Both teams won their respective divisions with relative ease. While the Yankees (97-65) coasted to the finish line and won the AL East by six games, Detroit (95-67) blew away the competition going 30-9 in their final 39 games and winning the AL Central by 15 games. A big reason for their strong finish was Justin Verlander (24-5, 2.40 ERA) who won 12 straight starts before getting a no-decision in his last outing of the season. The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was in 2006. Verlander was just a rookie but now he's arguably the best pitcher in the game. He's a lock to win the Cy Young Award and is one of the favorites to capture the American League MVP. Another factor to Detroit's domination during the 'dog days' was the addition ...
